TOPICS INCLUDE:
NEVER DIE WONDERING
As a result of living a varied and
interesting life Wendy wrote a book to encourage others not to let opportunities
pass them by. It is a common fault that we put off what we want to do
most until a more suitable time, the danger being that it may pass us
by. Wendy takes a refreshing look at how to lead a fulfilled, no regret
life and Never Die Wondering.
TRAVELS WITH GRANNY
Wendy took her grandchildren one at a time on holiday for a one to one
experience. Callum at the age of eleven chose to go to Rome, specifically
to see the Colosseum. Connie aged nine, went to Slovenia to enjoy horse
riding, water rafting and cycling. Tom, aged eleven, went to Istanbul
where east meets west and Toby, aged ten, went to Crete to explore Greek
history. The spin off from each journey was that granny and grandchild
got to know each other and were able to spend a special time together
that has never been forgotten and made for a special relationship between
them.
TRAVELS IN UNUSUAL PLACES:
UGANDA
Working as a volunteer in Uganda
in a village school she experienced the simple life and what it means
to the children to gain an education with the support and help of people
from the western world. She visited a refugee camp housing people from
ten different countries, including Congo, Rwanda, Sudan, and Eritrea.
She also went by herself, with a guide, to see the gorillas in the mountains
on the Uganda Rwanda border
CYCLING THE CAMINO ST JACQUES
At the age of 58 and wondering what to do next with her life, Wendy and
her friend Linda, cycled from Le Puy, in the south of France, to Santiago
de Compostella, in North West Spain. 1,000 miles, over four mountain ranges,
taking five weeks to complete the journey. It was the journey of a life
time that taught them patience, tolerance and perseverance.
GUATAMALA
Wendy’s husband was working in Guatamala and so for a week she travelled
about the city and places nearby on her own. The next week, with her husband,
she travelled up country to the Mayan temples and the mysteries of an
ancient civilisation. Along the way she stayed in the strange fishing
village of Livingstone, went horse riding and swam through a long, dark
cave.
ECUADOR
Wendy wanted to go away for a month. Her husband didn’t, and so
she decided to go with two other friends. As the time drew near the friends
pulled out because they had read about civil unrest in the country on
the internet. Wendy decided to go anyway and only spent the first week
on her own. Other friends asked if they could join her and came out a
week later. Because of the civil unrest Wendy and her friends went out
to the Galapago Islands, a little good comes out of something bad. They
also travelled high up in the mountains on top of a small train that snaked
its way up and down this beautiful country. They walked in the hills high
above Otavalo and experienced armed soldiers on the streets of Quito.
INDIA
As a result of helping a young Indian man through education in England
Wendy went out to India to visit his family who lived in a mud house in
a small village outside Calcutta. The resulting experience of both city
life and rural life in India left a big impact. She also travelled up
to Darjeeling, and on a subsequent visit, travelled on overnight trains
to see the Taj Mahal stopping off along the way. She saw the holy city
of Varanassi and the erotic carvings on temples deep in the countryside.
